Albertus Pictor, was a painter and he was born in Immenhausen in Germany around 1440-45. Pictor moved to Sweden in the 1460s, and to Stockholm in 1473, in Stockholm, he took over a paint shop and married Anna, the artist's widow. Albertus Pictor has painted in several churches in the municipality of Enköping, these are Härkeberga church, Härnevi church, Österunda Church and in Husby-Sjutolft church.

The church of Härkeberga
Härkeberga church is located 10 km east of Enköping. It is situated in the middle of a cultural landscape.
The church’s was built in the early 14th century and is best known for its rich frescoes. Most of the paintings have never been painted over and is therefore unusually well preserved. The same can be said about the vault paintings. They never have been over-limed and they are therefore in relatively good condition, although the colors have changed since the Medieval times. During the 14th century the sacristy and porch was decorated to the church.
In the middle of 1480s the vault and walls were decorated by Albertus Pictor's, some of his finest works, who’s his real name was Albert Ymmenhusen. He was one of the most successful painters of the Medieval times. The murals snow stones Pauperum.
One of the most famous paintings is of Jona who is thrown into the sea and swallowed by the big whale. After three days, throws him up on shore. It is interpreted in Biblia Pauperum as an example of when Christ after his death on the cross spent three days in the underworld before he was raised from the dead.
The inside of the church is characterized by the crucifix of triumph, and related scenes from Jesus' life, and scenes from the Old Testament - according to medieval view - foreshadowed the events of Jesus' life.
The church is also handicapped approved and wheelchair approved. There are handicap toilets, smoking is prohibited and there is also have a have telephone line. There is room for 50 people and it´s possible to guide yourselves with the help of a CD around in Swedish, English, German, French and Finnish. You can also order a guided tour for your visit. The cost of a tour is 500SEK and for a group its 200SEK more. The reservations are made through the church expedition or by their email. You can visit the church on Tuesdays-Sundays. 10:00 to 15:00 am.
Medieval market at Bredsand
Twice a year, St. Joar´s medieval market is organized at Bredsand camping. Where you can experience knights, boats, crafts and live music in a medieval style.
Bredsand is located 4.5 km from the center of Enköping.
